Moses confident Rhyno will make Guineas
Trainer Kevin Moses is confident Rhyno Chaser will take his place in the Caulfield Guineas on Saturday.
Rhyno Chaser, who is a $26 chance with TAB Sportsbet, drew barrier 17 for the Group One race but is a doubtful starter because of a hoof injury.
The colt was supposed to have a gallop this morning but the near-fore hoof problem which kept him out of Saturday’s Spring Champion Stakes at Randwick has flared up again.
"It’s related to the original injury, he’s got heat in the hoof now, so we gave him the morning off," Moses said.
"But he’ll work tomorrow and I think he’ll be right to run on the weekend."
Moses advised stewards a nail had pierced the sole of Rhyno Chaser’s near-fore hoof following his win in the Dulcify Handicap at Randwick on September 27.
Rhyno Chaser was given a couple of veterinary examinations leading up to the Spring Champion Stakes including one on race day.
"He continues to improve and we just want to tick all the boxes tomorrow before taking him down," Moses said.
"We’ve had no luck with the draw but that’s the way it goes and I’m just looking forward to the gallop."
The Rick Worthington-trained Whitefriars, who ran second to Dreamscape in the Group Two Stan Fox Stakes (1400m) last start, is the first emergency for the Guineas.
