Weather is only concern for Ryan team
Magic Millions aspirants Schiffer and Top Drop continue to please trainer Gerald Ryan with Queensland’s weather his only concern over the next couple of weeks.
With floods ravaging Rockhampton in central Queensland, the weather in the south east of the state was clearing on Monday.
The Magic Millions raceday is at the Gold Coast on January 15 with Schiffer on the third line of betting for the $2 million Classic (1200m) and Top Drop favourite for the $1 million Guineas (1400m).
Both had their lead up runs in Sydney rather than Queensland on Boxing Day due to the weather up north and both won.
“Schiffer is coping well and has worked steadily since her win,” Ryan said.
“Top Drop has improved since the run.”
The two will stay in Sydney so they can work on good tracks and go to Queensland in the days before the Magic Millions.
They could be joined by Adnocon who will be nominated for Randwick on Saturday.
“He’s no good in the wet but he’s fit so he should be racing,” Ryan said.
“He’ll be nominated for Randwick. I’ll have a look at the forecast for the Gold Coast and if it looks as if it will be fine, we might scratch him and go up there.”
Adnocon ran third in last year’s Magic Millions Stayers Cup (1800m) but if he runs at the Gold Coast it will be over 1400 metres in the Magic Millions Cup.
Swerte Bella, who ran second on debut behind Glissade at Randwick on Saturday, has been ruled out of the Magic Millions Classic.
“She was shin sore yesterday so she will go for a break now,” Ryan said.
Another stablemate, Ego’s Dare, will travel to Melbourne rather than the Gold Coast.
“He’ll go to Caulfield and race in the Doveton Stakes on Saturday,” Ryan said.
“It’s a Listed race over 1200 metres worth $100,000.
“He hates wet tracks but he’s fit and well and ready to go.”
Ryan made a successful hit-and-run mission on Saturday’s Flemington meeting when Ahdashim took out the Standish Handicap up the Flemington straight.
The talented sprinter will have a couple of weeks off before Ryan decides on his autumn program which could include the Newmarket Handicap and a clash with star sprinters Black Caviar and Hay List.
