Suspect sample' from Guineas winner

Media reports this morning have suggested Caulfield Guineas winner Starspangledbanner has returned an irregularity to a pre-race sample.

The sample was taken from the three-year-old before a race last month.

Racing Victoria chief steward Terry Bailey responded to the reports by telling Sport 927 radio that there were no outstanding positive swabs before stewards.

The Leon Corstens-trained Starspangledbanner on Saturday led all the way to trounce his more fancied rivals to claim the $1 million Guineas.

Boom horse Denman could only manage seventh of the 11 runners, while talented pair So You Think and Trusting could only finish fifth and eighth respectively.
