Surprise jumpout for Black Caviar at Sandown
Undefeated champion Black Caviar made her first appearance of 2013 in a jumpout at Sandown on Tuesday.
Black Caviar last raced in the Group I Diamond Jubilee Stakes (6f) at Ascot, where she sustained muscle tears in her narrow win over the high-class French galloper Moonlight Cloud in June last year.
Black Caviar’s connections considered retiring the great mare but decided to continue her career into the autumn with an eye on winning the race named after her, the Group I Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Flemington in February.
The six-year-old spent time on the water walker at Peter Clarke’s Murchison property before returning to Peter Moody’s stables last month.
Black Caviar had little trouble disposing of her opposition in the jumpout prompting Group I-winning jockey Simon Marshall to tweet about the mare’s effort. Marshall was on hand at Sandown as part of his duties for syndicator BC3 Thoroughbreds.
“Nice to see Black Caviar trialing super well at Sandown just now – running about 45 (seconds) for 800m, fire brigade was on site to put the flames out,” Marshall tweeted.
