Shocking likely to miss Ranvet

Melbourne trainer Mark Kavanagh has shelved plans to back up Australian Cup winner Shocking in Saturday’s Group I Ranvet Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill.

The 2009 Melbourne Cup winner roared back into form with a big win in the Australian Cup but Kavanagh said the son of Street Cry has “pulled up a bit scratchy” after the $1 million event.

Kavanagh is likely to wait for the Group I BMW (2400m) on April 2 before sending Shocking north.

Meanwhile, Rosehill trainer Gerald Ryan has scrapped plans to run Group I-winning mare Melito in next month’s Group I Doncaster Mile at Randwick.

Ryan said he had Melito inoculated for a trip to Hong Kong to contest the Group I Champion’s Mile on April 26.

Melito will run in Saturday’s Group I Coolmore Classic. Hugh Bowman has picked up the ride of the daughter of Redoute’s Choice.
