Scarlett Lady to resume next month
Brisbane winter carnival star Scarlett Lady will kick off her spring campaign in the Group I Challenge Stakes (1400m) at Hastings on August 27.
“She only had 2-1/2 weeks out and looks fantastic,” Rogerson told NZ Thoroughbred Marketing.
“She will gallop between races somewhere in mid-August, before she goes to Hastings.”
The winner of the Queensland Oaks, Scarlett Lady will have five starts during her upcoming campaign, all at Group I level.
Scarlett Lady is likely to clash with Rosehill Guineas winner Jimmy Choux and last year’s Emirates Stakes winner Wall Street in the Challenge Stakes before she heads across the ditch for her four major assignments.
Trained by Graeme and Debbie Rogerson, Scarlett Lady’s Australian targets will be the Group I Underwood Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield on September 17 before the Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on October 2.
From there she will contest the Caulfield Cup (2400m) on October 15 leading up to a start in the Group I Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington on November 2.
Scarlett Lady will be nominated for the Group I Cox Plate at Moonee Valley on October 22 but at this stage it is an unlikely target.
“We can always run her in the Mackinnon [on October 29] if we want but I think she will go straight into the [Melbourne] Cup,” Rogerson said.
I think she’s something very special and could be the best horse I’ve trained.
“She should be a realistic chance in the big cups.”
Nominations for all of the spring features will be released next Tuesday.
