Rodd to partner Black Piranha in Ramornie
Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Michael Rodd will partner the Con Karakatsanis-trained Black Piranaha when the dual Group I winner lines up in the Listed Ramornie Handicap (1200m) at Grafton on July 13. Rodd won the 2004 Grafton Cup aboard Pacific Dancer and recorded his first ever win as a jockey on Tornato Lass at the track in July 2000.
Black Piranha is likely to receive topweight of 61kg in the feature sprint where former top-class galloper and barrier rogue, Here De Angels, will make his return to the racetrack.
Karakatsanis attempted to book Nash Rawiller to ride Black Piranha but the leading Sydney jockey was unavailable due to commitments for the Gai Waterhouse stable.
The son of Clang finished eighth at its last start in an attempt to land an unprecedented third straight Stradbroke Handicap victory. The gelding turned in a terrific effort when beaten just under a length behind Beaded in the Doomben 10000 at its previous start.
