Quirindi Racing – Hatch to leave his mark
Trainer David Hatch has just one runner at Quirindi on Monday but will be disappointed if he doesn’t head home with a winner.
Hatch trains Northern Mark who is the horse to beat in the Willow Tree Class 2 Handicap (1450m).
Northern Mark finished his race off strongly when third to Zedi Warrior at his first run back from a break at Tamworth on March 25 before another fast finishing third over 1300m at Scone on April 15 behind the promising Woodrow.
Northern Mark will be third-up from a spell at Quirindi on Monday and it is worth noting the gelding won third-up over 1200m at Tamworth last preparation.
Northern Mark goes to 1450m third-up on Monday but Hatch believes the son of Youthful Legs will relish the journey.
“He has always wanted ground,” Hatch said. “This is the first time we have trained him to race over a bit of distance.
“We think he is a 1600m-2000m horse in the making. Northern Mark has improved since his last run and is ready to win.
“I will be disappointed if he doesn’t win on Monday.”
