Perry in hot water over Bicarb charge

Newcastle trainer Paul Perry has been fined $8,000 at a hearing into El Zegri returning an elevated bicarbonate reading when presented to run at Moonee Valley on Cox Plate day in October.

Stewards withdrew El Zegri from the 1300 Australia Flying Hcp (1000m) after a reading of TCO2 greater than the allowable 36.0 millimoles per litre in plasma was detected in the gelding.
Perry pleaded guilty to the charge.
