Palacio De Cristal shines at Randwick

1On a beautiful morning at Randwick the Grahame Begg-trained Palacio De Cristal delivered an encouraging lead-up gallop ahead of Saturday’s Group I Doncaster Mile. If weights rise as expected by 0.5kg when acceptances are taken on Tuesday, Palacio De Cristal will be ridden on Saturday by Darley jockey Kerrin McEvoy, who has been granted permission by stewards to ride the mare 0.5kg over on 52kg.

Working at around 6.20am, after the majority of Group I contenders had completed their work, Palacio De Cristal galloped over 1200 metres in a tidy 1.28.0.

She ran her final 600 metres in 38.0 seconds and her last 200 metres in the identical time to More Joyous, 11.60 seconds.

“She went good, spot on, spot on,” Randwick clocker Craig Tompson said.

“She worked as good as More Joyous and provided it’s dry, she’s the value runner.”

The weather for the remainder of the week is the key factor to Palacio De Cristal’s prospects in the $2 million spectacle.

The Sydney forecast is for sunshine until Friday when there is the chance of showers.

There is also the prospect of scattered showers on Saturday.

TheEncosta De Lagomare’s last run wasfourth behind More Joyous on dead (5) ground.

Palacio De Cristal is a $41 chance in the Doncaster Mile with Betstar.
