Love And Kisses to be saved for Saturday
Group One-placed Love And Kisses has been steered away from black-type racing this week and will instead target a weaker option at Rosehill on Saturday.
Trainer Chris Waller had the classy Encosta De Lago mare nominated for the Listed Tattersalls Cup (2000m) at Randwick on New Year’s Day but has accepted with her in the Green Day At The Gardens Handicap (1500m).
"She’s not quite up to that Group level and there’s no other suitable races for her and while we are waiting to find something we might as well have a go at some nice prizemoney in a weaker race," Waller said.
"While this is the weaker of the options we had, it’s still a tough race."
Love And Kisses failed to beat a runner home in the Group Two Villiers Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on December 19 when she was just 4-1/2 lengths from the winner Palacio De Cristal.
She was sixth to Rabbuka in the Listed Festival Stakes two weeks earlier.
Prior to that Love And Kisses defeated Dubai To Sydney to win at Rosehill over Saturday’s distance.
Love And Kisses has drawn barrier three of 11 and will be ridden by 1.5kg claiming apprentice Nathan Berry.
The Allan Denham-trained Nuclear Sky has topweight of 59.5kg and will be ridden by three-kilogram claiming apprentice Kody Nestor.
Seven-year-old Nuclear Sky comes into the race after being unplaced in the Listed Razor Sharp won by Prince Braeman on December 19.
Nuclear Sky won last year’s Group Three Hawkesbury Cup (1600m).
The Peter Snowden-trained Gergis has 56.5kg on Saturday and is coming off a seventh in the Razor Sharp.
As a two-year-old Love And Kisses was third to Sebring in the Group One Sires’ Produce (1400m) at Randwick in April last year
