Ganderton in strife with stewards
Leading apprentice Daniel Ganderton found himself in hot water with stewards at an inquiry into his actions on runner-up Shagerz in the BP Woodward Handicap at Rosehill on Saturday.
Ganderton was called to answer questions about shifting out on the Les Bridge-trained gelding but it was his attitude that caused the most concern.
Chief steward Ray Murrihy said Ganderton’s attitude was appalling after he laughed at the suggestion he was not being dictated to by horses on his inside.
Murrihy also said he showed a lack of respect for the stewards’ inquiry before adjourning the matter so Ganderton’s boss Gai Waterhouse could be present.
Ganderton is a runaway leader in the junior riders’ premiership but has found himself on the wrong side of stewards over weight-related offences recently.
Last year, Waterhouse imposed a two-week penalty on Ganderton when he was late to Rosehill races.
