Laser Hawk solid favourite after draw
Laser Hawk is a steady favourite for Saturday’s Group One Australian Derby despite drawing wide in the $1.5 million feature.
The last-start Rosehill Guineas winner came up with barrier 11 in a field of 13 at Tuesday’s barrier draw for the 2400m Classic for three-year-olds at Randwick.
Laser Hawk remained at $3.20 with TAB Sportsbet ahead of New Zealand Derby winner Silent Achiever, who drew barrier nine, at $4.
Silent Achiever is the only filly in the Derby and will be looking to follow in the footsteps of another filly, Shamrocker, who won the race last year.
Rosehill Guineas runner-up Ocean Park was a late entry for the Derby and is on the third line of betting at $4.80 after coming up with barrier six.
Strike The Stars will begin from barrier one while Victoria Derby placegetter Sabrage has the outside gate.
Last Saturday’s impressive Tulloch Stakes winner Polish Knight came up with gate two.
