Ha Ha filly fetches $700,000 at Magic Millions
An Encosta De Lago filly out of Golden Slipper winner Ha Ha has fetched $700,000 at the Magic Millions sale on the Gold Coast.
The filly was purchased by Mount Hallowell Stud in Western Australia which is headed by Seacorp principal Craig Thompson.
Sales prices at the top end of the market continued to fall short of the $1 million mark on the second day of the sale.
The much-hyped Redoute’s Choice filly out of Group One winner La Baraka was knocked down for $590,000 to Sydney trainer Gerald Ryan.
Overseas buyers were active including the Hong Kong Jockey Club which paid $540,000 for a Dehere filly out of Joleur, the dam of stakeswinners Gaze On and Bhutane Dane.
British Bloodstock Ireland paid $520,000 for a Stravinsky filly out of the well-performed Irongail.
The yearlings on offer this season were conceived in the spring of 2007 when equine influenza hit NSW and Queensland.
While the effects on the foal crop were not as devastating as feared, many mares were not served by the stallions of choice due to restrictions on horse movement.
The majority of the shuttle stallions stranded at Sydney’s Eastern Creek quarantine facility for a lengthy period were then sent home to Europe without serving any mares.
