Golden Jubilee favourite out
Singapore star Rocket Man has been ruled out of the Group I Golden Jubilee Stakes (1200m) at Royal Ascot next month. Trainer Patrick Shaw indicated the Ascot feature will come too soon for the son of Viscount who made light work of his rivals when scoring by 4-1/2 lengths in Sunday’s Group I Krisflyer Sprint (1200m) at Kranji.
“Unfortunately, Rocket Man won’t be coming to Royal Ascot. He might come for the July Cup but his trainer Pat Shaw says that if there was another week between his win last week and Royal Ascot he might well have come,” Ascot spokesman Nick Smith told Racing Post.
“We obviously talked about the July Cup in detail when I was in Singapore last week and he is leaving that option open – it is in the Global Sprint Challenge, which makes it an attractive option.”
The July Cup to be run at Newmarket on July 8, is likely to be a target for the Peter Moody-trained Hinchinbrook.
The potential clash should give the racing public a guide on the Rocket Man – Black Caviar showdown which has sparked debate after Shaw declared “I’ve always thought he was clearly the better horse”.
