Final bid to save jumps racing
A last-ditch plea to save jumps racing beyond 2010 will be made to the Racing Victoria Limited board today.
Melbourne Racing Club vice-chairman Mike Symons has been given an hour from 1.30pm (AEDT) to present a case on behalf of the pro-jumps lobby in an attempt to get RVL to reverse its decision to discontinue jumps racing.
A part-owner of star jumper Some Are Bent, Symons’ submission will centre around the fact that the number of fatalities declined in the second half of the 2009 jumps season.
It will also include a proposal to create higher jumps to help slow the speed of races.
