Equine organisations reach EADRA agreement
AUSTRALIA’S peak equine organisations have reached in-principle agreement on the Emergency Animal Disease Response Agreement (EADRA).
The agreement brings certainty to the $3 billion industry in the event of another disease outbreak such as Equine Influenza, which caused major losses in 2007.
Signatories include the Australian Horse Industry Council, Harness Racing Australia, the Australian Racing Board, and Equestrian Australia.
The deal means both Federal and State Governments will contribute to an emergency animal disease response, with the horse industry repaying costs via a levy imposed on horse owners.
