Entries out for Randwick spring features
Doncaster Handicap winner Sacred Choice was among 121 entries taken on Monday for Randwick’s other major 1600m feature, the Epsom Handicap. There were 118 nominations for the Metropolitan Handicap (2400m) and 82 for the Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) with all three Group One features on October 1 at Randwick.
Since she ran second to Captain Sonador in the 2010 Epsom, the Joe Pride-trained Sacred Choice has won two Group One races, taking out the Myer Classic last spring and adding the Doncaster in the autumn.
Triple Honour, the 2008 Doncaster winner, was one of nine Epsom entries from leading trainer Chris Waller along with Group One-winning stablemate My Kingdom Of Fife who was also nominated for the Metropolitan.
Major Guineas winners from 2010-2011 have been entered for the Epsom.
Randwick Guineas winner Ilovethiscity has been joined in the entries by Caulfield Guineas hero Anacheeva.
Ilovethiscity resumed with a second placing in the Warwick Stakes on Saturday.
Gai Waterhouse has 17 entries for the Metropolitan including last year’s winner Herculian Prince while leviathan owner Lloyd Williams has nominated 14 stayers.
Up and coming three-year-old Manawanui was missing from the Spring Champion Stakes with Darley’s dual Group One winner Helmet heading the entries.
Helmet, scheduled to resume at Rosehill on Saturday, is the $6 second favourite to win the Golden Rose and favourite at $6.50 to claim the Caulfield Guineas.
