Encouraging report on injured jockey

Injured jockey Patrick Ferris is showing positive signs as he slowly wakes from an induced coma.
“Pat is showing signs of waking up and has coughed a couple of times,” jockeys’ safety officer Maurice Logue said on the Racing NSW website.

“It may take a few days before Pat wakes from his coma but things are looking positive at the moment.”

Ferris was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle last Monday after he was involved in a race fall at Muswellbrook.

He underwent emergency surgery to relieve pressure on his brain.

Ferris had only recently returned to the saddle after being injured a barrier trial fall in April.
