Dubai To Sponsor The Australian Cup
Dubai, arguably the best known of the seven emirates of the UAE, has announced its sponsorship of the Australian Cup, a 2000m, Group One horse race at Flemington Racecourse to be held on Saturday 12th March, 2011.
The Dubai Australian Cup, the Melbourne Festival of Racing’s premier weight-for-age staying test, will take place on what is known as ‘Super Saturday’ – the highlight of the festival featuring an incredible all Listed and Group racecard.
The sponsorship highlights the growing links with Australia and sees a continuation of the support of the event by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, whose Darley breeding operation has sponsored the event since 2004.
John Ferguson, bloodstock advisor to His Highness and Vice Chairman of Falcon and Associates, which is supporting Dubai’s sponsorship of the race, said:
“Dubai and Australia both share a passion for horses and horseracing. The Dubai Australian Cup represents a great opportunity to use that shared enthusiasm to continue to build on the existing and growing links between the two places.”
Dale Monteith, CEO of Victoria Racing Club said:
“The VRC is delighted to welcome Dubai as a sponsor, further strengthening the close ties between Dubai and Australia. The Melbourne Festival of Racing is a celebration of what Melbourne is most renowned for – first class racing, food and fashion – all of which are so well represented in Dubai.”
Last year Dubai announced its sponsorship of the Dubai Dewhurst Stakes, the most prestigious Group One flat race on the UK two-year-old calendar, held at Newmarket Racecourse.
Dubai has a strong association with horseracing and is well known for hosting the world’s richest Group One horse race, the Dubai World Cup, which is now worth US$10 million and takes place in Dubai annually in March attracting thousands of international guests.
This year the Dubai World Cup will take place on March 26th.
