Cessnock Racing – Trainer and Jockey concur
Trainer Grant Delaney and jockey Robert Thompson have an exceptional winning strike rate of 40 percent when they combine their talents together and they look set to get another winner at Cessnock on Monday.
Delaney has engaged Thompson to ride Grand Concur in the Herald Real Estate Advertisers Maiden Plate (900m).
The three-year-old daughter of Grandera made her racetrack debut at Newcastle on 8 January finishing just over four-lengths from the winner Fletch.
Miover who ran second in the same race added some merit to the form by winning a maiden at the last Cessnock meeting on 14 January.
“Grand Concur did a good job on debut at Newcastle and will be all the better for the experience,” Delaney said.
“I have put Robert Thompson on because he rides Cessnock better than any jockey around and we have had some success in the past.
“The filly will wear winkers on Monday, she was just a bit green at Newcastle and hopefully the winkers will keep her going straight to the line.
“I am hoping Robert can get some cover from the wide barrier and settle just off the speed.
“It’s hard to have confidence taking a three-year-old filly to the races on a very hot day but Grand Concur has improved since her debut run and she should run a very good race.”
