I Am Invincible continues on comeback trail

Injury-plagued I Am Invincible continues to thrive in his comeback to racing and is primed for his first run down the straight at Flemington tomorrow.

John Hawkes The lightly-raced entire made a stunning return to action at Warwick Farm last month in his stable debut for the training partnership of Michael, Wayne and John Hawkes.

Ridden by Kerrin McEvoy, I Am Invincible raced close to the speed before skipping clear on straightening and going on to defeat Ledger by 1-3/4 lengths in the Hoxton Park Handicap (1000m) on October 21.

It was his first start since beating only one runner home in the Group Three San Domenico Stakes in August last year.

A winner of two of his five starts, I Am Invincible runs in the opening event on Emirates Stakes day, the Perle Vintage Sprint (1100m).

Michael Hawkes said the horse had done well since his win last month.

“He’s settled into his new surroundings nicely and has done everything we’ve asked of him so far,” Hawkes said.

“We’ve had him for a while now and he came to us with a few niggling problems but we’ve given him plenty of time and it was great to see him come back the way he did at Warwick Farm, he’s a very nice horse.”

McEvoy reunites with I Am Invincible tomorrow.

As a two-year-old, I Am Invincible scored a commanding five-length win on debut at Warwick Farm in February last year before finishing a game third to subsequent Golden Slipper winner Forensics in the Kindergarten Stakes a month later.
