Blutigeroo wins Canberra Cup
Group One winning stayer Blutigeroo returned to form in the Canberra Cup after a long absence from the number one stall.
The Colin Little-trained seven-year-old had not won since March 2007 when he claimed the BMW (2400m) at Rosehill.
He had a long break after finishing out of the placings in the Melbourne Cup later that year and has had just three starts since.
Nash Rawiller brought Blutigeroo ($9) through the pack inside the final 200 metres of Sunday’s Canberra Cup (2000m) to snare a long neck victory over $4.40 favourite Imvula with local Vintage Rock )$26) another half head third.
The Listed event at Canberra was one of several country features held around Australia on Sunday.
Dr Nipandtuck won the $60,000 Wodonga Cup (1590m) in Victoria, Riverscape claimed the Clare Valley Cup (1800m) in South Australia while Innocenttassie took out the Christmas Cup (1400m) at Grafton.
In Tasmania, favourite Scenic Silver won the Listed Newmarket Handicap (1200m) on the new surface at Launceston.
The much travelled Peter Moody-trained Scenic Silver has also won races in his home town of Melbourne as well as Brisbane and Adelaide.
