Overview

Ferocity

FEROCITY is the best performed son of the mighty LION HUNTER to stand at Stud, having inherited the blistering turn of foot noted in only the best Danehill Line stallions.

After securing the stallion for his Darling Downs operation, Oakland’s stud principal Neville Stewart commented

Ferocity was an exceptional racehorse... there is not a doubt in my mind that Ferocity will be just as good as his sire, perhaps even better

FEROCITY was a winner of the Magic Millions Adelaide Classic as a 2yr old and was consistently stakes performed at 2, finishing second in the Listed P F D Stakes over 1200 metres and third in the Group 2 VRC Sires Produce Stakes during his juvenile preparation.

FEROCITY won the Group 2 Ascot Vale Stakes during his 3yr old campaign.

FEROCITY is one of the fastest Danehill line stallions over 1200m to stand in Australia, having run the Ascot Vale on a dead track in 1.08.35.

  • Exceed and Excel’s best time over the distance was 1.08.72 (stands for $110,000 in 2008)
  • Redoute’s Choice clocked 1.08.73 ($330,000 in 2008).

FEROCITY possesses all of the qualities that are essential to a successful sire, especially Pedigree, Performance, Precocity and Speed, speed, speed

Ferocity Overview Ferocity had the precociousness to win at two. The colt won on debut at Flemington, winning the Festive Season Stakes, beating subsequent stakes performer Ready To Mambo.

After a short let up, Ferocity returned to dazzle his opposition, winning the Magic Millions Adelaide Classic. The son of Lion Hunter sat behind the speed, before kicking away in the straight to post a convincing victory, defeating subsequent stakes winner HILLFA and multiple Group one winner DIVINE MADONNA.

Ferocity was also stakes performed at two, finishing second in the Listed P F D Stakes over 1200 metres and third in the Group 2 VRC Sires Produce Stakes.

Ferocity had the propensity to train on at three. After failing on a slow track in the Listed Mitchell McKenzie Stakes, Ferocity showcased his amazing talent, blowing away a high class field to win the Group 2 Ascot Vale Stakes. Ferocity sat outside speedy leader Jadescent, and fought determinedly to win by half a length going away. He clocked 1.08.35 on a dead track, running an incredible 33.14 for the last 600 metres.

A time honoured race, the Ascot Vale Stakes has proven to be a race that is won by colts who meet with exceptional success at stud. Encosta De Lago, Kaapstad, Zeditave, Century and Vain have all won the race. The honour roll also contains names of champion fillies, such as Alinghi, Courtza, Rose Of Kingston, Surround and Toy Show.

Throughout his career, Ferocity displayed an astonishing turn of foot. He possessed an incredible ability to be able to sit behind the speed, and kick away with an explosive burst, as evidenced by his Ascot Vale Stakes and Magic Millions Adelaide Classic victories.

Additional Pedigree notes

Ferocity comes from one of the most prepotent sire lines in Australia today. He is by the mighty LION HUNTER, a prolific son of Danehill, whose last yearlings graced the sales ring in 2006.

Lion Hunter finished the 2006 season by topping the Australian Leading Sires By Winners Table (133 winners) and at fifth on the Sires By Earnings Table with progeny earnings of $6,478,730. Lion Hunter is the sire of 2006/07Queensland Horse of the Year Gold Edition, who’s career earnings approached the $3.2 million mark, a true champion of Australian racing.

Oaklands Stud principal Neville Stewart was delighted to have acquired Ferocity with the help of Sheriff Iskander and other clients. Stewart regards Ferocity as the perfect substitute for his deceased sire, saying Ferocity carries all the necessary prerequisites to succeed in the stallion barn.

“Ferocity was an exceptional racehorse,” Stewart said. “He contested 10 races, six of which were stakes races, up to 1400 metres, finishing with three victories (Adelaide Magic Millions; G2, Ascot Vale Stakes; VRC Festive Season) and four placings including 3rd in the G2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes, for track earnings of $656,500.” He collected prizemoney in no less than 80 percent of his outings. “There isn’t a doubt in my mind Ferocity will be just as good as his sire, perhaps even better,” Stewart added.
