Winks gets the nod at Shatin


Melbourne-based jockey James Winks secured another win at Shatin on Sunday, hot on the heels of his first Hong Kong Group 1 win the previous week.

Winks has impressed local trainers of late, stringing together 3 consecutive wins in as many days of racing during his first Hong Kong jaunt.

Sunday’s effort saw Winks take out the Guia Hill Handicap (1600m) on board the 9 year old gelding Pacific Alliance at odds of 18 to 1. Trained by Englishman Sean Woods, Winks guided the veteran to a 2.5 length win over Triumphant Glory.

The previous Sunday, Winks booted home Dim Sum (Kyllachy-Heckle(In the Wings) for trainer John Moore, securing the Group 1 Chairman Prize Sprint over 1200m.

On Wednesday he claimed another win at Happy Valley aboard Thunder Valley for David Hall.

Wink’s form is attracting trainers the likes of John Moore, John Size, David Hall, Casper Fownes and other locals, putting a positive spin on the remainder of the season
