Wet causes racing cancellations
A two-year-old 1100 metre race has been added to Friday’s Gold Coast feature program with nominations for all Queensland meetings extended until Tuesday.
Racing in Queensland and NSW was cancelled on Monday due to heavy rain along the eastern seaboard.
Officials had hoped the NSW meeting at Gosford would go ahead but 30mm between 7.30 and 8am put paid to those plans.
Gosford chief executive James Heddo said he was hopeful Thursday’s meeting would be run as part of the area’s New Year festivities.
"Thursday is a big New Year’s Eve celebration on the Central Coast, Heddo said.
"We have the races, the Mariners football game then fireworks at 9pm."
Doomben was called off shortly after 9am (AEST).
Barrier trials at Randwick in Sydney and Eagle Farm in Brisbane on Tuesday have also been cancelled.
The $100,000 Goldmarket Handicap (1300m) at the Gold Coast attracted 23 entries on Monday.
The Gosford Club will meet with Racing NSW this week to try to reschedule some of its races.
