Trainer stuff up costs So You Think victory
Legendary Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien took the blame following So You Think’s defeat in the Group I Prince Of Wales’s Stakes (2000m) at Royal Ascot on Wednesday.
The former Australian superstar was run down over the concluding stages by Godolphin galloper Rewilding.
“It was trainer error,” O’Brien told the media after the race. “I will take responsibility for this personally.
“I didn’t have him fit enough for this kind of race and he’s given a good blow afterwards.
“After he won his first two races so easily I had gone easy on him.
“I would think there’s improvement to come.”
Meanwhile, winning jockey, the flamboyant Frankie Dettori, picked up himself a nine-day suspension for excessive whip use aboard Rewilding.
The stewards found Dettori guilty of striking Rewilding 24 times inside the final two furlongs and he now misses the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown on July 2.
Dettori’s suspension starts on June 29 and runs until July 7, meaning he will also miss the first day of Newmarket’s July meeting.
