Scarlett Lady to miss Derby
Queensland Oaks winner Scarlett Lady will not back up in Saturday’s Group I Queensland Derby (2400m) at Eagle Farm.
Managing owner, Australian Turf Club board member Max Whitby, said the filly would be sent back to New Zealand to spell in preparation for a tilt at the major races on the Australian calendar during the Melbourne spring carnival.
Scarlett Lady will be entered for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups as well as the Cox Plate.
With Scarlett Lady not running in the Derby, her stablemate Shootoff is likely to hold sway at the top of Queensland Derby betting after the final field is declared later in the day.
