Sacred Kingdom wins Sprint Cup
World champion sprinter Sacred Kingdom has added the Centenary Sprint Cup to his record at Sha Tin.
The 1000m Hong Kong Group One had eluded the dual International Sprint winner until Sunday when Brett Prebble steered him to victory over Ultra Fantasy who put up a determined fight.
Sacred Kingdom prevailed over the final stages to win by three-quarters of a length.
Former Sydney jockey Zac Purton and Fellowship upset Good Ba Ba’s bid to win a record three consecutive Stewards’ Cups (1600m).
The Paul O’Sullivan-trained Fellowship finished third to Good Ba Ba when he took out his third International Sprint in December but those positions were reversed on Sunday.
Good Ba Ba made up a lot of ground from back in the field but came up short with Fellowship holding off Thumbs Up in a tight finish.
