Rain Affair in action at Randwick trials
The emerging prospect Rain Affair was the star of the show at Monday’s abbreviated Randwick trials.
Trainers decided against running their horses in the second half of the program, which began in slow conditions on the Randwick steeple grass.
The steeple grass was deemed unsafe after the fourth heat before five trials were conducted on the dirt track.
Rain Affair has proven himself an exciting wet tracker, winning all his runs on slow and heavy tracks in dominant fashion, and found Monday’s dirt track to his liking.
The son of Commands posted a 4-1/2 length win over a field that included the stakes-placed three-year-old Altius, who is now part of the Chris Waller stable after beginning his career with Tony Vasil.
Rain Affair’s time of 43.9 seconds for 754 metres was the equal fastest of the morning. The Gai Waterhouse-trained Boardwalk Dancer matched Rain Affair’s mark while winning the sixth heat.
Boardwalk Dancer struggled in his only outing when last of seven behind Bossdon City at Rosehill on January 15.
The Jason Coyle-trained Emotional Circus tuned up for her imminent debut with a three-quarters of a length success in the third heat of the day.
Emotional Circus is a two-year-old daughter of Elusive Quality out of Cirque Du Soleil. Cirque Du Soleil is a sister to Group I winner Fastnet Rock.
