Predatory Pricer is the new favourite for Caulfield Cup after 24 horses were paid up as final acceptors for Saturday’s $2.5 million 2400m feature.

predatory-pricer Among the 20 horses to drop out of the race on Tuesday were impressive Metropolitan Hcp (2400m) winner Speed Gifted, which had been $5 favourite, and 2008 Cox Plate winner Maldivian.
Trainer Mark Kavanagh advised Racing Victoria stewards that Maldivian pulled up after trackwork at Flemington on Tuesday morning suffering from an injury to his near-fore suspensory ligament.
Maldivian will be sidelined for the entire spring.
Trainer Lee Freedman’s focus is on the Melbourne Cup for French-owned import Speed Gifted who is likely to run in the $3 million Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley on Saturday week as his lead-up to the $5.65 million 3200m feature at Flemington on November 3.
The Melbourne Racing Club committee will announce the final Caulfield Cup field of 18 runners plus four emergencies at 3.30pm (AEDT) on Tuesday.
Horses vying for the final two spots in the field are Baughurst, Light Vision, Newport and Shocking who are equal 18th in elimination order.
Six O’Clock News and Miss Darcey are equal 22nd with Hoorang 24th.
