Lees has Light Fingers within his grasp
Kris Lees is warming to the prospects of Samantha Miss in Saturday’s Light Fingers Stakes after a brilliant track gallop by the star at Newcastle on Tuesday.
The triple Group One winner makes her return in the Group Two 1200-metre race at Randwick and turned in a performance the trainer described as her best work this preparation.
Samantha Miss galloped with stablemate Absolutelyfabulous who is nominated for the Group Two Breeders Classic (1200m) at Randwick.
“They ran 1:08.3 seconds for the 1000 metres, working home in 36.40 seconds the final three (furlongs, 600m),” Lees said.
“It was her (Samantha Miss) best gallop of the campaign, no doubt.
“She is trimming up by the day and my optimism is growing heading into the weekend.”
Samantha Miss hasn’t started since her outstanding win in the VRC Oaks (2500m) at Flemington in November.
