Kiwi whizz-kid heading to Sydney
Record-breaking New Zealand apprentice James McDonald will travel across the Tasman to ride for one of Sydney’s leading stables on Saturday week. Randwick trainer John O’Shea has been a vocal supporter of McDonald’s skills and hasn’t hidden the fact he’s attempting to lure the young rider to Sydney on a permanent basis.
While O’Shea is still trying to convince McDonald to make the move a permanent one, he’s been successful of securing his services for three mounts on Saturday week.
“Tim Clark and Christian Reith are on holidays, Corey Brown on suspension and you can’t book Nash Rawiller on Monday so we’re taken the initative to bring James McDonald across for the day,” O’Shea said.
O’Shea has booked the talented rider for the 3YO Benchmark 75 Handicap (1600m), Fillies and Mares Benchmark 85 Handicap (1400m) and the 3YO Fillies Benchmark 75 Handicap (1200m).
