Invest in Avdulla
Group I winning jockey Brenton Avdulla describes the Clarry Conners-trained Invest as the pick of his rides at Canterbury this Saturday.
Invest produced a great finish first-up to score over the same course and distance as Saturday’s assignment and looked a good horse in the making.
“She’s a nice horse, I’ve always had a bit of time for her,” Avdulla said.
“I did all the trials on her before her first-up run but was booked to ride another horse so Glyn (Schofield) got the ride.”
After the Canterbury win Conners commented, “She was one of my top two fillies, her and Satin Shoes.”
Avdulla echoed Conners’ thoughts and indicated the daughter of Dehere could well have been undefeated.
“She ran second to Karuta Queen on debut and I said to Clarry she probably would have beat that horse with another run under her belt,” he said.
Invest will take on another impressive last start winner in Manawanui, who will be ridden by Tommy Berry.
Manawanui was beaten less than two lengths by Do You Think on debut when his fitness gave out over the concluding stages.
At his second start Manawanui was away slowly and checked during the running but still managed to pick himself up and score a decisive victory.
