First 2 yr old trial winners for Ferocity and Southern Image
Ferocity and Southern Image were well represented at the first two year old trials for the season, each producing winners from their first colonial crops at Toowoomba, QLD.
Silverton (filly by Ferocity ex Jerash) and Captain Fun (colt by Southern Image ex Massage) flew the flag for their respective first season sires, winning their 400m time trials in good fashion. Both horses are trained at Toowomba by trainer Mark Webb for Oaklands Stud’s principle, Neville Stewart.
Silverton clocked the fastest 2 yr old time of the day, running the distance in 23.1s, beating Let Her Loose (Sequalo ex Miss Stronghold) a half neck.
Captain Fun dashed the 400m in 23.43s to beat Little Zachary (General Nediym ex Hiramosa) by a short neck, with a further 2 3/4 lengths back to the rest of the field.
Shuttle stallion Southern Image already boasts an impressive record in the Northern Hemisphere, posting 9 individual 2 yr old winners that include Southern Fireball (who set a track record of :50.67 for 4 1/2 furlongs while winning by 4 1/4 lengths at Hollywood Park) and Winning Image (posting a 12 length victory on debut over 1000m).
Meanwhile breeders and racing enthusiasts alike have been awaiting the early performers amongst Ferocity’s first crop. They are not likely to be disappointed – Son of the legendary Lion Hunter, Ferocity was himself a winner of the Magic Millions Adelaide Classic as a 2yr old and was consistently stakes performed at 2, finishing second in the Listed P F D Stakes over 1200 metres and third in the Group 2 VRC Sires Produce Stakes during his juvenile preparation.
