Corstens charged over positive swab
Trainer Leon Corstens was on Wednesday charged over Caulfield Guineas winner Starspangledbanner returning a positive pre-race urine sample to a prohibited substance when he won at Caulfield on August 1.
Analysis by Racing Analytical Services Limited of the sample taken from Starspangledbanner before the Victorian Owners and Breeders Awards Hcp (1000m) detected the presence of altrenogest.
Under the Australian Rules of Racing, altrenogest is a prohibited substance in male horses.
Starspangledbanner is a three-year-old colt.
The charge will be heard before the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board at a date to be fixed.
Starspangledbanner was one of the stars of the spring winning four races including the Listed Vain Stakes (1100m), the Group Three McNeil Stakes (1200m) and the Group One Caulfield Guineas (1600m), all at Caulfield.
