Brown to ride Shoot Out in Cox Plate

Corey Brown will ride Shoot Out in Saturday’s Cox Plate conscious of his responsibility to his friend and the horse’s regular partner Stathi Katsidis who died suddenly in Brisbane on Tuesday.
Brown, winner of last year’s Melbourne Cup on Shocking, said he had told his manager not to chase the ride but when the call came, he was honoured to accept.

Katsidis’ fiancee Melissa Jackson found his body at their home but the cause of death has not been determined.

“I’m still in shock,” Brown told Sydney’s Sky Sports Radio.

“I was in Melbourne yesterday and (trainer) John Wallace contacted my manager Brett Grant while I was on the way home.

“I had discussed it with Brett earlier and said I don’t want to stoop to that level and be chasing the ride under those circumstances.

“Someone does have to ride the horse and I’m privileged to be on him.”

Shoot Out is the third favourite for the Cox Plate at Moonee Valley behind So You Think and More Joyous.
