Bowman to ride Tropicana Girl in Oaks

Bowman to ride Tropicana Girl in OaksSydney based-jockey Hugh Bowman will take the reins on the Chris Waller-trained Tropicana Girl in the Group I Conrad Jupiters Queensland Oaks (2400m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday. Tropicana Girl easily accounted for a moderate field at Canterbury on May 25, however Bowman said it was neccessary if she was going to head to Queensland.

“She needed to win that well to warrant a trip north,” Bowman said.

The top jockey said Doomben Roses winner Scarlett Lady was going to be tough to beat but wasn’t conceding the race just yet.

“The Kiwi filly (Scarlett Lady) and Chris’s other horse (Savannah Choice) will be hard to beat, but I still think it’s an open race,” he said.

“Divorces went well the other day, don’t discard her.”

Bowman will continue his association with Firebolt in the Spear Chief Handicap (1500m) after the pair led throughout to win at Doomben last start.

In the Group II Dane Ripper Stakes (1400m) Bowman will partner the Kris Lees-trained Zingaling, while he again rides for Lees in the Group II QTC Cup aboard last start Scone winner, Motspur.
