Boom colt to take on Millions

Spirit Of Boom has firmed to third favourite for the Magic Millions Classic following his explosive win in the Prelude at the Gold Coast.

gold coast Sydney filly Ambers Waltz retains her place at the top of markets for the $2 million race for two-year-olds at the Gold Coast on Saturday ahead of Military Rose and Spirit Of Boom.
Spirit Of Boom’s seven length victory in Saturday’s 900m dash followed a short half head defeat on debut over 1000 metres at Eagle Farm on December 12.
Winning trainer Tony Gollan said Spirit Of Boom had been specifically trained for the Magic Millions Classic (1200m) and was confident the colt would be further improved over the extra distance.
"He’s a really good colt this horse," Gollan said.
"We have been patient with him and given him plenty of time to mature so he would be ready in January.
"I expected him to race well and the blinkers have really switched him on. He will have to be hard to beat on that performance next week and the experience on the track will help him."
TAB Sportsbet had Spirit Of Boom at $7.50 after the win with Ambers Waltz at $3.70 and Military Rose at $6.
Corey Brown will be reunited with the John O’Shea trained Ambers Waltz after Damien Oliver took the reins in her absence on Boxing Day.
Ambers Waltz was beaten by fellow Magic Millions contender Triple Crown at Randwick while Brown was in New Zealand riding Victoria Derby winner Monaco Consul at Ellerslie.
"John and her owners were understanding and patient enough to wait for me, and it was a relief when I got confirmation that I will be riding her," Brown said.
"I can’t wait to be back on her back and I am very happy things have fallen my way because she is a top-class filly who deserves to be one of the horses to beat."
Triple Crown is an $11 chance but while admitting Ambers Waltz had the job to come from well back and wide when they met at Randwick, trainer Gary Portelli believes his filly can do the job.
"Ambers Waltz came up to beat our filly but she fought back and I was very proud of her," he said.
The barrier draws for the Magic Millions Classic, Cup and Trophy will be held on Tuesday.
