Australian riders in the money at Happy Valley
Australian jockey Brett Prebble made slight inroads into 10-time champion Douglas Whyte’s massive lead at the top of the Hong Kong jockeys’ premiership at Wednesday night’s Happy Valley meeting. Whyte held a 16-win lead over Prebble but the Victorian-born hoop cut it by one with his success aboard Master Dreamer in the Tai Tam Country Trail Handicap (2200m).
Whyte went winless at the meeting but another two Australian jockeys enjoyed success at Happy Valley.
Tye Angland booted home Gurus Dream to win the Wong Nai Chung Gap Handicap (1200m) while veteran jockey Darren Beadman won the evening’s final race, the Mount Nicholson Handicap (1650m) aboard Kyara for the John Moore stable.
Beadman holds third spot in the Hong Kong jockey’s title chase with 52 wins, six clear of another Australian, Zac Purton.
Angland’s Happy Valley success took his tally to 14 wins for the season.
